Abstract
GLEZ HARAMBOURE, Yoermes; FLORES BERENGUER, Isaida and GARCIA TRISTA, Jenny. Rapid drawdown effect on the estability of earth dams: two case studies from Cuba. riha [online]. 2021, vol.42, n.1, pp. 42-53. Epub Mar 01, 2021. ISSN 1680-0338.
Rapid drawdown can be induced by structural failures or uncontrolled operation of the floodgates. Their occurrence may affect the upstream slope stability in earth dams, producing landslides. This investigation carries out the analysis of stability of two earth dams with homogeneous section, by the Morgenstern-Price analysis method, considering saturated and partially saturated behaviors of different clay soils in the embankment. The analysis method is applied by means of Slope/W program code, contained in Software GeoStudio. It is studied the influence of geotechnical conditions and mechanical behavior of soils. Finally, for the Cauto El Paso Dam, operating functions are proposed, that guarantee the security of the embankment.
