Abstract
ROMERO LOPEZ, Teresita de Jesús and SUAREZ ALVAREZ, Gerardo. Sustainable use of fishing wastewater from microalgae cultivation. Study case EPIGRAN. Ing. hidrául. ambient. [online]. 2022, vol.43, n.2, pp. 17-28. Epub May 20, 2022. ISSN 2788-6050.
This work was carried out in Manzanillo municipality, Granma province, with the support of Manzanillo Fishing Industry. The objective of the research was to propose a treatment system capable of reducing the contaminating potential of wastewater from the EPIGRAN Company with the use of the microalgae Chlorella sp. For this, the high-speed lagoons were approached, evaluated in advance by fishing specialists. In this way, the sustainable use of wastewater will be promoted, since high value-added by-products will be obtained for animal feed, the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The clarified water will have a maximum BOD5 of 50 mg/L and 4.5 kg/m3 of wet algal biomass will be obtained (1.0 kg/m3 of dry biomass).
