Abstract

BARNADA, Jaume. Contemporary public space systems… from classic mobility to diffused urban space. Arquitectura y Urbanismo [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.1, pp. 123-131. ISSN 1815-5898.

Public spaces are crucial not only for the image of the city but also for the activity and mobility of their citizens being residents or passer by. Today´s city and contemporary public spaces have evolved from classical mobility, often defined by streets and parks, torward the fuzzy urban space where integration with nature is one of their visible values. The paper describes this evolution and highlights, according to the author’s view point, the ten basic qualities of the contemporary fuzzy urban space. These outstanding qualities, collected from the PhD thesis entitled “The city as a diagram of public places”, are the result of a direct observation and a comparative analysis among the theoretical models and the reality of the contemporary city.

Keywords : urbanism; public space; urban space; mobility.
