Abstract

COLLADO BALDOQUIN, Natalí; MATAMOROS TUMA, Mabel  and  GUTIERREZ MAIDATA, René. Design requirements for a Museum of Contemporary Art in Havana. Arquitectura y Urbanismo [online]. 2013, vol.34, n.2, pp. 64-82. ISSN 1815-5898.

The valuable work of Cuban contemporary art does not have a place to be permanently displayed despite the extension made some years ago to the National Museum of Fine Arts. This paper presents the results of an investigation aimed to define the basis for a program for a museum of contemporary art, considering that there are no current standards for this architectural program in the country. To achieve this, we performed a comparative study of ten museums of its kind in the world, defining the most important features of the space components, grouped according to their function. In the paper we propose the general outline and requirements for the design of a contemporary art museum in Havana which can serve as a starting point in developing the final program.

Keywords : museum; contemporary art; architectural program; museum design.
