Abstract
ALBA VALLE, Boris and HERNANDEZ AREU, Orestes. Performance of metal oxide surge arrester models for current impulses. Energética [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.2, pp. 65-75. ISSN 1815-5901.
The metal oxide surge arresters (MOSA) are dispositive used in the protection against surges. Mathematical models like tools of simulation for a better analysis of the behavior of the MOSA in insulation coordination studies have been developed at present. The specialized literature reports some problems of accuracy in the answers of these models for given operating conditions. In this work an evaluation of the performance of Karbalaye and Valsalal models against different current impulses was developed. The analysis was done by comparing the values of the parameters obtained with those models with a given excitation, respect to real values of the same parameters obtained by means of measurements of laboratory. As a result it was noted whose the residual voltage waveform, values of absorbed energy and initial voltage slope rate, stray from the results obtained experimentally for these actual models.
Keywords : models of lightning arresters of zinc oxide; current impulses.
