In the present work, the modeling and simulation of a centrifugal pump is carried out using numerical methods. A Computational fluid dynamics technique was used for the simulation task. The performance characteristics of the pump, that is, head, power and efficiency versus flow were obtained. With purpose of validation the numerical results obtained were compared to the experimental data supplied by the manufacturer. It was verified that there was a very good agreement between numerical simulation and the manufacturer's data. The difference between both results is always lower than 3%. The streamlines in the inlet pump through the impeller, the axial velocity contours at the impeller inlet and the pressure and velocity fields inside the pump are investigated and analyzed. The model implemented and the results obtained constitute the basis for developing investigations where the performance of the pump is evaluated by modifying the flow path at the inlet of the impeller.
