Abstract

SOTO CALVO, Manuel Alejandro; VILARAGUT LLANES, Miriam; ECHEVARRIA SALGADO, Adrián  and  SOUSA SANTOS, Vladimir. Pre-design of a hydrokinetic farm for the Bay of Banes. Energética [online]. 2021, vol.42, n.1  Epub Mar 01, 2021. ISSN 1815-5901.

Most of the energy used worldwide is distributed between the electricity generation and transport sectors. World population growth of around 10 billion people is projected by 2050, so an average of 32.3 (TW) will be needed to meet its energy needs. Due to unstable oil prices and increased environmental awareness, many countries around the world have turned to renewable sources of energy. Previous studies have shown that the Banes Bay, in the eastern part of Cuba, exists the conditions for the exploitation of hydrokinetic energy. As part of this work, a study of existing technologies is carried out, selecting the type of turbine to use. Once the turbine was selected, simulations were carried out to analyze the behavior of the Electric Power System (SEN) at the connection point of the hydrokinetic park to the network.

Keywords : Hydrokinetics Turbines; Tidal Energy; CO2 emissions.
