Abstract

RODRIGUEZ RODRIGUEZ, Gamil; HERNANDEZ GONZALEZ, Arturo; LOPEZ LLANUSA, Alejandro  and  RAMIREZ BELTRAN, Jorge. System for measurement of deformation using metallic strain gauges. EAC [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.1, pp. 80-93. ISSN 1815-5928.

The common way of assessing structural parts of machines, buildings, vehicles, aircraft and other structures is based on the calculation of the strength of materials to external forces. A property representing the resistance of the solid is the mechanical deformation. The recording and analysis of this property to characterize solid materials are very important. This paper exposes the design made of hardware and firmware implementation of a prototype system that aims to measure the mechanical deformation on the surface of a steel beam in bending using metallic strain gauges. In order to reduce measurement errors a new compensation method was implemented via DSSP (Digital Sensor Signal Processor). A mechanical system which is modeled mathematically to tune the designed system was also carried out. From evaluation of prototype performance an error of about 1% over the span of measurement was obtained.

Keywords : strain gauge; deformation; DSSP.
