Abstract

BURGOS-ARCOS, Carlos Leonel  and  SABLON-COSSIO, Neyfe. Evaluation of alternatives for the use of coffee lignocellulosic biomass in Chimborazo. Ing. Ind. [online]. 2022, vol.43, suppl.1, pp. 21-36.  Epub Dec 18, 2022. ISSN 1815-5936.

An understanding of the lignocellulosic biomass processes is essential when selecting the fractionation routes and the possibilities of obtaining new products, by-products, and bioenergy derived from the selected biomass. The objective of the article is: to identify the opportunities for obtaining lignocellulosic biomass from coffee in the province of Chimborazo within the framework of the Circular Economy. The varieties and quantities of cultivated coffee were determined, and the sites and characteristics of the places where coffee is grown in Ecuador and in the province of Chimborazo were identified. The types, amounts of waste, and by-products from the industrialization of coffee were determined. It was found that as a result of the industrialization of coffee, large amounts of waste are generated in the form of parchment, pulp, and grounds.

Keywords : Lignocellulosic biomass; coffee; biomass.
