Abstract

ALMAGUER-ZALDIVAR, Pavel-Michel; ESTRADA-CINGUALBRES, Roberto  and  PEREZ-RODRIGUEZ, Roberto. FEM Evaluation of the influence of residual stresses in welded joints fatigue. Ingeniería Mecánica [online]. 2016, vol.19, n.1, pp. 40-48. ISSN 1815-5944.

This paper presents a method using the finite element method to evaluate the influence of residual thermal stresses on the fatigue life of welded joints, applied to AISI 1015 butt weld. The procedure is based on the concatenation of transient and static thermal simulations under the action of thermal loads and mechanical fatigue. To make the geometric model, the SolidWorks 2013 software was used and simulations were performed using the Simulation complement. A coefficient of influence of residual stresses on the fatigue life of welded joints was proposed, which under the conditions studied, was equal to 1,14.

Keywords : fatigue; finite elements method; procedure; welded joint; residual stresses.
