Abstract

MENENDEZ-PEREZ, Alberto; BORRAJO-PEREZ, Rubén  and  SACASAS-SUAREZ, Daniel. Analysis of the influence of louver number in compact heat exchangers. Ingeniería Mecánica [online]. 2016, vol.19, n.3, pp. 176-184. ISSN 1815-5944.

The paper presents a numerical study of compact louvered fin -and- tube heat exchangers. The influence of the louver number in the thermo-hydraulic characteristics of the heat exchanger is determined. A 3D numerical model within laminar flow conditions, for a Reynolds number variation spanning from 120 to 1200, based on the hydraulic diameter. Changing the louver number up and downstream from the central louver, it was found that for smaller Reynolds number, the 2 louver configuration had the highest heat transfer value. On the other hand, as the inlet velocity at the model increases, higher values of heat transfer coefficient appear for geometries having more louvers.

Keywords : louvered fins; heat transfer enhancement; numerical simulation.
