Abstract
QUINTANA LLANIO, Livia et al. Making decisions on reproduction in adolescence. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2014, vol.10, n.19, pp. 30-39. ISSN 1817-4078.
Cuba has developed politics and social programs with a positive impact in the teenager maternity decrease; however, the attention to this problem continues to be a challenge for the Cuban State, taking into account the growing trend on specific rates of fertility in these ages and its unequal behavior in different territories of the country. This qualitative, exploratory study used typical subjects and experts sample at Guamá and Tercer Frente municipalities in Santiago de Cuba; Manzanillo and Jiguaní, in Granma, and San Miguel del Padrón, in Havana. The findings pointed out that the gender inequalities are based upon lots of pregnancies in teenagers who carry on their gestations, from the initiation in sexual relations, without previous negotiation process and the conditions in which such relations are produced, nor in those which usually they do not agree on the use of protective methods with the sexual partners. It was appreciated that teenagers reproduce erroneous beliefs about sexuality, reproduction and parentally, sustained on patriarchal conceptions. The early familiar reproduction pattern is also a common denominator in the adolescents who begin the maternity way on these lands. Family is the primary group on which the social protection function is deposited to face teenager pregnancy. Nevertheless, the conditions to assume this process require strategies actively involving both the community and locations in close interconnection.
