The present study addresses the problems related to the environmental pedagogical performance of the teachers of the Ecuadorian Basic Education. To address environmental issues from the educational process, teachers must make a critical and reflective analysis of their teaching practice, which allows them to identify their needs for the pedagogical processing of environmental education. The protection of the environment is established as a transversal axis of the Ecuadorian curricular model, however, according to the results obtained in the diagnosis, teachers have difficulty planning and implementing environmental information in practice as a transversal axis. That is why the research proposes guidelines for the improvement of the environmental pedagogical performance of the teachers of the Ecuadorian Basic Education. The research has a qualitative approach and its development applied methods of the theoretical level, such as: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and hermeneutic - dialectic; from the empirical level, it is used: the analysis of documents, survey, interview and observation to determine criteria for evaluating executives, teachers and students of Basic Education in the province of Guayas in relation to the environmental pedagogical performance of teachers; arriving at the conclusion that within the functions of the teacher this, directing the educational process and this implies an adequate processing of environmental information, which translates into good environmental pedagogical performance.
