The problem of Latin American identity is one of the most controversial current issues addressed by Cultural Studies. This article is intended to achieve a theoretical approach to such an arduous issue. The study was systematized through scientific research methods, hermeneutics, content analysis and analytical-synthetic. Cultural Studies have before them the challenge of achieving the understanding and explanation of the uniqueness of the Latin American peoples from their diversity, assuming a social and political positioning, which allows to contribute to clarify, forge and consolidate a unique form of identity thinking to achieve the Self recognition and autonomy, away from academic, fetishist, folklorist and mercantilist practices.
