The teaching of music has gained importance in the training of professionals where both instrumentalists and specialized teachers are prepared. Percussion has been taken as an object of study in different institutions in higher education in the world and is an indispensable part as a subject in music education in Colombia. Therefore, this work addresses the domain of percussion as the main instrument in the emphasis on musical interpretation. It is proposed to publicize the historical and theoretical framework of the subject Latin Percussion, also presents a synthesis of several theoretical and didactic references used for its teaching. This subject is put into practice in the emphasis of the Master in Music career at the higher level, which contributes to the development of rhythmic education by starting a path from the teaching of the popular traditions of Latin America and the Caribbean.
