Abstract

This article presents one of the results of the National Research Project "Transform to Educate", in Sancti Spíritus province, of Cuba Pedagogues Association, in connection with the university, the Provincial Directorate of Education, and other social sectors. Its objective is to reflect on the practical perception of the concept of sustainable development in families of people with intellectual disabilities (Down syndrome). It is an exploratory study, with a qualitative approach based on phenomenology, with application of the methods: documentary analysis, participant observation, in-depth interview, discussion group, iconographic and audiovisual analysis. For fieldwork, contexts and subjects from the municipality of Sancti Spíritus and the framework of the First National Biennial “Transform to Educate in Family”, an event where they interact with families, community leaders; teachers, officials and directors of education; University teachers; doctors, social workers, speech therapists, defectologists, psychologists, health rehabilitators, among others.
