WIśNIEWSKA, Natalia. Structural metaphors in the political self-image on Twitter during the 2016 general elections in Spain. Conrado [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.77, pp. 364-373. Epub Dec 02, 2020. ISSN 1990-8644.
Now we can observe the politics that are frequently found in the world of different social networks, where political discourse has to adjust to a new communication model. This research derives from the above. It aims to briefly describe some of the structural metaphors used by the most voted Spanish parties, Partido Popular, Partido Socialista Obrero Español, Ciudadanos and Podemos, to create the group's positive self-image. The study is qualitative and it has been carried out manually according to the definitions and methodology within cognitive linguistics that deals with the conceptual metaphor and the analysis of discourse with the contribution of van Dijk on the political image. The messages that make up the corpus come from the official Twitter accounts of the parties and were published during the electoral campaign in June 2016. The results have made it possible to identify that political parties use structural metaphors in their digital discourse, adapting their messages to the needs of communication on the Internet.
