This bibliographic review aims to provide updated information on research on parental stress in primary caregivers of infants and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) during the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19). Various investigations that have taken place in the context of confinement due to the pandemic have detailed the impact that this has had on the health status of people with ASD and their families, due to the change in their routines, family and economic problems. Specifically, the caregivers saw their psychological well-being affected, presenting changes in mood characterized by irritability, higher levels of stress, anxiety, as well as decreased quality of sleep. One of the consequences of this psychological distress is that acute and chronic stressors could imply a higher risk of family violence and child abuse. Finally, it is concluded that the characteristics of people with ASD and parental stress are related in a bidirectional way, which is why it is necessary to provide social support to caregivers, either in person or virtually, in order to ensure their well-being and that of their families.
