Motivations that predominate in the practice of exercise and physical condition in adolescent taekwondists from Ibarra, Ecuador. Conrado [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.94, pp. 30-40.  Epub Oct 10, 2023. This research aims to determine the motivations that predominate in the practice of exercise and physical condition in adolescent taekwondo athletes and how they correlate with each other. The target population are taekwondo martial athletes, adolescents between 12 and 18 years old, enrolled in specialized training clubs in the city of Ibarra, Ecuador. The study sample consists of 61 athletes with at least one year of sports experience. The survey collected information on age and sex, the Self-report of Reasons for the Practice of Physical Exercise (AMPEF) was applied. For the evaluation of physical condition, the Illinois test was used, which measures agility; the sit and reach test, which assesses flexibility; and the vertical jump test, which analyzes the explosive force in the lower limbs. The mean age is 14.0 (±2.33), 64% are male and 36% are female. It is evident that both the female and male population present significantly high positive correlations between physical condition and motivations towards the practice of exercise. Adolescent taekwondo athletes from the city of Ibarra are aware of the importance of physical activity in the health and comprehensive well-being of the individual, motivating themselves both for their physical and mental health.
