The strategic projections of universities and their educational models are increasingly demanding and require sustainability. The growing advancement of human development demands comprehensive and competent professionals who contribute to the development and well-being of the communities where they operate. The objective of this study is to assess the effect of the university educational model on professional competencies, through a research carried out among tenured and contracted teachers who teach in different faculties of the Technical University of Babahoyo (UTB). It is a non-experimental research, it assumes a mixed methodology, which articulates qualitative methodology with quantitative methodology from a descriptive and correlational approach. The design is cross-sectional with an exploratory scope. Eight theoretical dimensions related to the topic were contrasted. It was found that all the dimensions of the variables: university educational model and professional competencies are statistically related. The better the university educational model is developed, from its philosophical structure, functional design, substantive functions, as well as monitoring and evaluation, the better and more effective the professional competencies will be, understood from its dimensions of knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes.
