Much has been written about the life and work of Dr. Dulce María Escalona Almeida (Holguín, 1901- Havana, 1976), despite the fact that she herself did not leave enough bibliography to facilitate the work of her biographers. These writings recognize her participation in important events of political, social and pedagogical life that occurred during the second and third quarters of the 20th century, but in the author's opinion her particular performance within each one has not been sufficiently delved into. from them. On the occasion of the centenary of the First National Congress of Students and the founding of the José Martí Popular University (1923-2023), an in-depth analysis has been carried out in primary and secondary sources with the purpose of highlighting the active intervention of the representative of the University Pedagogical Association in such transcendental events, revealing the integrity of this exceptional educator, who later was founder and first director of the Enrique José Varona Pedagogical Institute, current University of Pedagogical Sciences, which contributes, modestly, to its recognition as a paradigm for the new generations of teachers in Cuba.
