Abstract
FERNANDEZ DIEGUEZ, Liuska; BANDERA CUNAT, Irayaselis; GUARDADO LACABA, Rafael and OLIVA ALVAREZ, Ricardo. Soil Susceptibility to Liquefaction in the City of Caimanera, Guantánamo. Min. Geol. [online]. 2017, vol.33, n.1, pp. 26-42. ISSN 1993-8012.
The objective of the investigation is to evaluate the engineering and geological conditions of the soils in Caimanera, province of Guantanamo in order to identify the areas of higher seismic probabilities and soil susceptibility to liquefaction. The probability was analyzed to amplify the seismic waves taking into account the effect of the area depending on the physical and mechanical properties in the area of study. The sectors having favorable and unfavorable conditions for the construction of engineering works were characterized. The applied indicator system includes engineering and geological parameters and the calculation of the safety factor for liquefaction. It was concluded that the soils having a greater potential to liquefy are located to the center of the city with the largest population settlement and where the existing fill material behaves as clayey sand type soils and sandy clay soils with gravel.
