Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the geophysical characteristics of the subsoil and to determine the dynamic properties of the terrain in the area of the projected bridge over the Bano River, in Guantánamo municipality. The electrical resistivity method was applied in the electrical tomography modality, as well as refraction seismic and the multichannel surface wave analysis method (2D MASW). It was obtained that the investigated area presents favorable engineering-geological conditions for shallow foundations, isolated or continuous, and that of the three layers revealed by the interpretation of geophysical data, layer 3, at a depth of about 12 m, is the most suitable for the placement of the bridge structure.
