Introduction:
Strategic planning is of great importance for the implementation of policies that allow their institutions to participate actively in solving problems, Planning should be the object of primary attention, it constitutes one of the most important activities at all levels of management, it demands from the leaders a constant updating of their knowledge and the continuous improvement of their skills, however there are still deficiencies detected in the quality of planning in health institutions, which affect the quality of the services provided to the population.
Objective:
To substantiate the importance and need of strategic planning in health institutions.
Development:
It has started from the knowledge of the current state of planning in health institutions, the barriers that may arise, as well as the potential that these institutions have to carry out the work in the new stage that is planned, deficiencies have been identified In the strategic planning process, some theoretical-methodological foundations are addressed, as well as the need for the active participation of all in planning to achieve commitment and work motivation in the institutions of the health system.
Conclusions:
Progress has been made in strategic planning in the Ministry of Public Health, but the actions for this activity have not been systematized, so it is necessary for health entities to understand the importance of the planning process.
