Objective:

To propose actions to strengthen the quality of nursing practice in the hospitalization process at the International Orthopedic Scientific Complex "Frank País".

Methods:

A bibliographic and documentary review was carried out. Three discussion group sessions were held with ten nursing managers in which brainstorming, causal analysis by means of cause and effect diagram and weighting of forces with the application of the SWOT Matrix were carried out.

Results:

A system of actions was developed focused on identifying the barriers with the greatest impact on the quality of nursing practice, which were grouped into four categories: human capital development, organization, process control, and use of information and communications technology.

Conclusions:

The application of this proposal of actions is a way to mitigate the weaknesses that violate the quality of nursing practice in the hospitalization process and the quality of institutional care.
