TORRES MOROCHO, Deisy Marlene; OREA IGARZA, Uvaldo; BRITO VALLINA, María Lucía  and  CORDERO MACHADO, Elena. Study of extraction of Barbasco foliage (Lonchocarpus nicou) as a biocide source. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.4, pp. 41-49. ISSN 2071-0054.

This paper is about a study to obtain biocide extract from the leanes of Lonchocarpus nicou. The phytochemical study reveals the presence of flavonoids, saponins, coumarins and others in the various extracts analyzed as well as in root barbasco leaf. The determining factors such as temperature, time, agitation speed and drying method significantly influence the production of secondary metabolites. Toxicity testing is done to the product in the laboratory with Anopheles sp larvae, assessing the percentage of mortality. A procedure for obtaining the extract from barbasco foliage is suggested.

Keywords : lonchocarpus nicou; barbasco; biocide; rotenoids.
