Abstract

NARANJO GARCIA, Abel  and  RUSO ARMADA, Frida. Financing in Higher Education Institutions: government allocations vs. self-financing. Cofin [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.2, pp. 35-50. ISSN 2073-6061.

Given the conditions of economic and financial crisis in the contemporary world, governments, at the international level, do not have the capacity to cover, in full, the financial demands of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Thus, this article reflects and argues about the role played by the modern university in the management of self-financing mechanisms against government allocations. As a major challenge for higher education, its funding is approached by addressing these two visions, to some extent antagonistic. However, its analysis made it possible to verify that an effective conjugation of both models is extremely beneficial for the financial health of the institutions.

Keywords : higher education; financing; financial resources.
