Abstract

ARMADA ESMORE, Zoila; JIMENEZ FERNANDEZ, Liset  and  CHALA TANDRON, Juan Miguel. Methodological guidelines for the theme Theory of Receptors in third year of Medical Studies. Rev EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2014, vol.6, n.3, pp. 37-50. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background: the theme Theory of pharmacological receptors is extremely complex and generates difficulties in its understanding by the students of third year of medical studies. Objective: to design methodological guidelines aimed at perfecting the teaching of the theme Theory of receptors in the subject Pharmacology 1. Methods: a transversal descriptive study was done at the Villa Clara Medical Sciences University from September 2012 to March 2013, with a non-probabilistic intentional sampling, composed of the teachers of Pharmacology and 85 students from third year of medical studies. The methodological design was conceived in three stages: first, to determine exactly the factors that have an influence on the low academic results in the above mentioned theme; second, related with the proposal of methodological actions of the themes; and third, an assessment of the proposal stated. Results: the obtained information allowed to list the main factors that have an influence on the low academic results of this theme, prevailing the insufficient use of the problem-solving method, shortage of teaching aids and low motivation of the students. Based on the detected difficulties, a proposal of methodological guidelines was designed, characterized by its pertinence, usefulness, feasibility and scientific and methodological value. Conclusions: the proposed methodological guidelines guarantee a better teaching and orientation for the study of the theme Theory of pharmacological receptors that will allow a better understanding of the theme. The methodological proposal was assessed by the selected specialists as pertinent, and they recommended its application.
