Background: the students´ acquisition of clinical abilities represents an essential aspect in the curricular formation for the National Formation Program of Community Comprehensive Medicine in Venezuela. Objective: to analyze the formation of clinical abilities of the graduated students of Community Comprehensive Medicine in the first cohort. Methods: a cross-sectional, descriptive research work was carried out from June to August 2012. The population comprised 4 335 doctors of the first graduation from 12 Venezuelan states, the sample comprised 440 graduated doctors. Theoretical, empirical and statistical methods were applied. Theoretical methods: Analytic-synthetic, inductive-deductive. Empirical Methods: A survey in questionnaire form about the formation of clinical abilities was applied to the graduated doctors. And the statistical methods: For the analysis of relatives and absolute values. Results: most of the graduated students self assess the acquisition of clinical abilities as satisfactory, specially in respect to the doctor-patient communication, the doctor-patient interview, the physical exam and writing in the patient's chart. Conclusions: there are favourable opinions about the formation and development of clinical abilities during the career on the part of the first graduated students of the National Formation Program for Community Comprehensive Medicine in Venezuela, which can be compared to the results of other universities and in some cases are even higher. These results match in a coherent way with the condition of recently graduated students.
