Abstract

TOLEDO PIMENTEL, Bárbara Francisca et al. Course on the relationship between chronic periodontal inflammatory disease and systemic alterations. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.2, pp. 110-123. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background: recent studies have linked the oral cavity diseases with systemic conditions, specifically, the chronic periodontal inflammatory disease. Objective: to design a course on the chronic periodontal inflammatory disease and systemic alterations for Army doctors working in the Primary Health Cares. Methods: a study was carried out, from January to April 2016 in the "Manuel Fajardo Rivero" Army University Hospital of Santa Clara, where 20 doctors that work in the Primary Health care participated. Theoretical methods were used: the analysis-synthesis and the induction-deduction; and empiric ones: documental analysis and questionnaire. Results: the contents on the relationship between the chronic periodontal inflammatory disease and systemic alterations are not part of the undergraduate programs, and in the post graduate, the study plan of the Comprehensive General Medicine specialty doesn't satisfy the learning necessities on the topic, the interviewed doctors possess insufficient knowledge about the relationship among these diseases, that's why a course was designed whose core contents are: oral cavity exam techniques, generalities on periodontal diseases and elements of the periodontal medicine, which was valued by specialists' criteria. Conclusions: the diagnosis carried out facilitated to identify insufficient knowledge in the Army doctors working in the Primary Health care about the chronic periodontal inflammatory disease and systemic alterations. With the designed course favorable changes were observed expressed in the level of knowledge appropriation, its implementation to patients´ assistance and affective experiences.
