Abstract

Background: teaching the diagnosis of dentomaxillofacial anomalies in the Orthodontics subject of the Dentistry career presents limitations, so it requires an improvement. Objective: to verify the effectiveness of the methodology designed for the application of the clinical method in the teaching of the diagnosis of dentomaxillofacial anomalies in the Orthodontics subject. Methods: an experimental study was carried out at the Provincial odontological Clinic of Sancti Spíritus, during the 2013-2014 academic year. Methods at the theoretical level were used: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction and empirical methods: quasi-experiment. The analyzes were based on mathematical procedures of the statistical level. Results: the favorable change from a very low level in the initial stage was observed in teachers and students of the control and experimental groups, at a high level in the final stage in the members of the experimental group when applying the methodology for teaching the Diagnosis of dentomaxillofacial anomalies centered on the clinical method and based on the didactic developing approach. Conclusions: the designed methodology contributed to the integration of knowledge, the way of proceeding and affective experiences in teaching with a developing approach to identify and interpret the morphological, aesthetic and functional alterations of dentomaxillofacial structures.
