Abstract

Background: postgraduate upgrading is a permanent need of the medical sciences librarians. Objective: to design a training course using the Moodle platform for the upgrading of the health branch librarians in Cienfuegos. Methods: a developmental research was carried out from October to December 2013 at Cienfuegos Province Medical Sciences Information Center. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive; And empirical ones: the survey in questionnaire form to librarians, and the statistical-mathematical for data processing. Results: the training needs of librarians were diagnosed, including: their limitations to develop learning in the distance learning modality, they had not interacted with the Moodle platform, they had formative deficiencies regarding the different methodologies for conducting studies of users, and reading difficulties hampering the understanding of the basic text, reasons why a postgraduate course was designed, that was valued by specialists' criteria. Conclusions: the course was designed in the Moodle platform; it allows having a technology for the interpretation and learning of the methodology for the study of the information needs of the users. The specialists valued it as pertinent and with adequate methodological structure in terms of conformation and content.
