Abstract

Background: the system of evaluation and accreditation of higher education institutions aims to check the quality of management and results in the processes they develop. Objective: to socialize the process of self-evaluation and evaluation of quality performed at Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences based on the variables analyzed for institutional accreditation. Methods: a documentary research was carried out during the month of March, 2015, whose purpose was to determine the state of the variables that enabled the process of accreditation of university quality. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and historical-logical and empirical ones: the analysis of documents related to the processes of accreditation of university quality. Results: highlights the main strengths and weaknesses and the improvement plan that was carried out by the center for the institutional evaluation. The variables that show the greatest number of strengths were: social interaction, infrastructure and resource management and undergraduate vocational training; The weaknesses are related to the insufficient management of internationally financed projects, the shortage of teachers with scientific degrees in science, insufficient promotion to the main teaching ranks and low index of scientific publications. Conclusions: the elaboration of the improvement plan and its control proved to be the best ways to ensure quality management and the final result obtained, in which the CERTIFICATE status is granted to this higher medical education center.
