Abstract

Background: the acquisition of clinical skills gives the medical student the necessary tools for their future performance. Objective: to evaluate the performance of clinical skills during the final practical exam of the Clinical Propaedeutics and Medical Semiology subject in 3rd year Medicine students. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive research was carried out during the 2015-2016 academic year at Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences. Methods from the theoretical level were used: historical-logical, analytic-synthetic and inductive-deductive; and from the empirical level the scientific observation was used. Results: deficiencies were identified in the preparation of the history of the present illness; more than 50 % of the students were evaluated as insufficient in the performance of the regional physical exam and the neurological system. More than 40 % were classified as insufficient in the order and interpretation of the electrocardiogram. Conclusions: the performance of clinical skills during the final practical examination of the Clinical Propaedeutics and Medical Semiology subject in 3rd year Medicine students was evaluated, and determining insufficiencies for their professional performance were identified.
