DIAZ VALDES, Liuba  and  VALLE LIZAMA, Raúl Luis. Student´s perception on teaching performance in the Sports Activity and Oral Health optional course. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.4, pp. 155-169.  Epub Dec 30, 2020. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background:

the opinion of the students is only one element among several to consider when evaluating teaching performance, but it contributes to accountability and to raising the quality of professional training in medical education.

Objective:

to assess the perception of fourth-year students of the Dentistry degree on the teaching performance in the elective course Sports Activity and Oral Health in Adolescence.

Methods:

a cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out from February to July of the 2018-2019 academic year, at the Sancti Spíritus University of Medical Sciences. Theoretical methods were applied to support the research work; empirical ones: survey in the form of a questionnaire and statistical methods. An addictive Likert-type scale was applied, consisting of 11 items before which the student was asked his opinion about the teacher in the development of the teaching-learning process.

Results:

the teacher's teaching performance in the elective course Sports Activity and Oral Health in Adolescence was favorably evaluated according to the perception of the students, with a predominance of the categories Strongly agree and Agree in each of the items, only the sufficient and updated scientific literature provided by the professor showed some opinions of disagreement.

Conclusions:

this experience constituted a tool for the continuous improvement of the teacher and the quality training of the students, which has repercussions in better dental care for the population.
