Abstract

LOPEZ MEJIAS, Modesta; CUENCA DIAZ, Maritza  and  CABRERA HERNANDEZ, Ysora. Metamemory: a basic learning resource at school. trf [online]. 2017, vol.13, n.1, pp. 43-55. ISSN 2077-2955.

This article aims at describing the findings of a study that prove the potentials of the suggested techniques and procedures to contribute to cognitive and memorizing development. The study relies on the application of research methods such as observation, Leontiev's long-term retention methodology, retrieving-pairs-of-related-words technique, text processing, metacognitive questionnaire and pedagogical pre-experiment. The latter allows the assessment of a strategy designed to encourage the acquisition of knowledge about memory and strategies and their application in different tasks. The suggested techniques proved that children are capable of planning and using comprehensive memorizing strategies to improve the learning process under the teacher tuition and guiding workshops.

Keywords : memorizing; retention; cognitive process; cognitive development.
