Abstract

The economic unbalance resulted from the economic crisis that affected the country several years ago had social and political consequences. Both families and business were affected. According to statistics, immigration had its highest rates all through 2000 to 2003 and the USA, Span, and Italy were amongst the most common destinations. Due to his social phenomena the government created in 2008 a program that benefitted the immigrants, this program was called “The Sustainable Dignified Voluntary Return Program”. This program allows immigrants to return to the country bringing back their household supplies bought abroad without paying the due taxes. The present research paper will examine whether this benefit is useful for Ecuadorian immigrants and at the same time it will determine the biggest inconveninents when applying it. All this will be managed through investigation methods to obtain the results. People involved in the process (immigrants, customs officers) will be interviewed in order to find out more about their experiences and to get suggestions from them.
