Abstract

This paper presents the results of a bibliographical research about the payment systems for the environmental services provided by forests; acknowledging this action as a method for forest conservation. In order to obtain the results, scientific methods have been used. These methods include documentary analysis, the logical-historical, and general theoretical methods that use the analysis-synthesis and the induction in the interpretation of the data collected. Its main objective is to deepen on the characteristics, trends and experiences in the design and implementation of environmental payment systems. As a result, recommendations and suggestions are offered for those aspects that cannot be avoided, providing support and inputs for the design of the methodology, with legal basis, which is intended to be elaborated as part of the research project entitled: Legal-methodological Foundations for the Formation of a System of Payments for Ecosystem Services (SPSE) in Ecuadorian forests.
