Abstract

BARRENO SALINAS, Mercedes; BARRENO SALINAS, Zoila  and  OLMEDO VALENCIA, Adriana Carolina. Higher education and its relationship with society: essential references for a change. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.3, pp. 40-45.  Epub June 02, 2018. ISSN 2218-3620.

Currently not a few authors warn of the failure of the link between higher education institutions and society, arguing that the formers do not always have the necessary link with the latters. In the case of Ecuador, although it is recognized that progress has been made in this regard in the last decade, the need to obtain relevant and qualitatively superior results continues to be raised. The aforementioned serves as a pretext to present this work that at first, in a general way, addresses some essential referents around the concept of linkage with society and then contextualize it in the case of Ecuadorian HEIs. Likewise, external and internal factors that influence the performance of this substantive function of higher education are identified and lead to conclude on the importance of strengthening the bonds university - society.

Keywords : Higher education; university; society; relationship with society.
