Abstract

MEJIA FLORES, Omar Gabriel; BERNABE ARGANDONA, Lorena Carolina  and  CORTEZ BAILON, Freddy Manuel. Electronic banking and the virtual transactions: Study case in Ecuador. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.4, pp. 135-141.  Epub Sep 02, 2018. ISSN 2218-3620.

The current world is migrating towards the dematerialization of the economy and the establishment of new trade relations, based on the generation of direct exchange networks, where the intermediary loses capacities and where the characteristics of transactions are imposed by the participants themselves. Thus, not only is access to goods and services democratized, now seen as a provision of experiences, but the generation of account units with value for the users themselves is allowed. The single monetary standard loses its validity progressively and therefore, countries, which like Ecuador are dollarized, or have become dependent on external economies, will find themselves in a dilemma for the decision making of their citizens, who will enter faster that governments to the digital era. This work, intends a literature and documentary review, with descriptive scope, of the events in which Ecuador is a pioneer for South America, such as dollarization, the implementation of electronic banking and its rapid elimination. As conclusions, it is proposed that the decision to eliminate electronic banking, issued by the monetary authority, represents a setback with respect to the entry of Ecuador in the virtual era, in favor of strengthening a dollarization that imposes a circle of dependence on that currency.

Keywords : Electronic banking; currency; virtual transactions; dollarization.
