PACHAY SOLORZANO, Jorge Washington. Bacterial infections and their resistance to antibiotics. Case study: Oncological Hospital "Dr. Julio Villacreses Colmont Solca", Portoviejo. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.5, pp. 219-223. Epub Dec 02, 2018. ISSN 2218-3620.
Bacterial infections are a health problem that represents significant costs both economically and in the well-being of the affected people, the importance of prevention and control of infections by multiresistant bacteria is relevant since they generate a public health problem worldwide due to the abuse of antibiotics. This study considers information from an investigation carried out at the Dr. Julio Villacreses Colmont oncology hospital in the city of Portoviejo, in which several biological samples were processed with the objective of isolating enterobacteria producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) of 326 isolates in the different biological samples processed 44.79% were strains that had this mechanism of resistance, the confirmation was made by phenotypic method such as disk diffusion. In addition, it was evidenced that Escherichia coli was the enterobacteria that produced most ESBL in 79.45% isolated mainly from urine samples in a percentage of 52.06%.
