Abstract

MORE ESTUPINAN, Mavel  and  SANCHEZ CORREA, Anais. Environmental education at school and its impact on local development. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.5, pp. 407-415.  Epub Dec 02, 2018. ISSN 2218-3620.

The incorporation of environmental education into the pedagogical process in the different subsystems of the National Education System and the evaluation of their impact on local development is considered a problem insufficiently attended by scientific activity. Among the causes associated with this situation are the limitations on the introduction of scientific results and the identification of criteria for impact assessment. The problematic described becomes the motive of this work, which presents a set of materials and means that constitute results of the project "Environmental education for sustainable development and its incorporation into the pedagogical process of schools of Villa Clara", It describes the procedure for its introduction, as well as for the development of a guide to evaluate its impact on local development. For the fulfillment of these purposes, methods and techniques of a predominantly qualitative approach are used, among which the ones associated to the participatory-action-research. The selected schools in the municipalities of Remedios, Caibarién and Santa Clara are used as scenarios. Teachers and students in the classrooms of these schools are the sample. During the two courses in which the work findings are implemented, there are transformations in the environmental education of students and families; in the environmental training of teachers; in the pedagogical process that is directed in the school and in the environmental problematic of the school environment and of the community; as evidence of the impact on local development.
