Abstract

VALTIERRA ANGULO, Iván E.  and  JAIMES MARTINEZ, Ramiro. The institutionalization of the charismatic movements and the transformations of the religious field of Tijuana. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2019, vol.11, n.1, pp. 402-409.  Epub Mar 02, 2019. ISSN 2218-3620.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the trajectory and impact of the charismatic movements in the religious field of Tijuana from the 1970s and 1980s. In this sense, the processes of institutionalization of the charismatic movements since 1973 are studied, both in Methodism and in Catholicism, as well as its overlap with other ecclesiological, liturgical, theological, ministerial and social movements in general. Therefore, from the qualitative approaches and case studies, based on archive review, interviews and participant observation, it was found that the charismatic movements were controlled in their entirety by the respective bodies of religious specialists. However, they served as catalysts for other types of movements that have fragmented the religious field, which is rearranged in different rhythms, both by the emergence of explosive revivals, and by the various forms of daily participation of the laity.
