The objective of this article is to offer theoretical methodological reflections related to the importance and need to develop social research in the context of initial training in education in Ecuador. To do this, it is based on the background and the evolution of social thought in Ecuadorian historical conditions, and the analysis of the revolution operated on knowledge at global and regional level, which places social research in a fundamental element for Social and educational development. Ideas that denote some of the problems of initial teacher training in social research are also discussed and methodological reflections are offered in this regard. It is based on a methodological strategy that combines quantitative and qualitative perspectives, through which a variety of methods, procedures and techniques are used for the collection of information, with a predominance of bibliographical and documentary review, observation, historical-logical and synthetic analytical methods. As a result, a deep reflection, explanation and theoretical and methodological argumentation are obtained on the need to develop social research in the education career to improve the training of professionals called to fully prepare future generations to transform the educational and social reality of the country.
