SANCHEZ MARTINEZ, Belkis; VEGA FALCON, Vladimir; GOMEZ MARTINEZ, Nairovys and VILEMA VIZUETE, Germania Elizabeth. Case-control study on risk factors for type 2 diabetes mellitus in older adults. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.4, pp. 156-164. Epub Aug 02, 2020. ISSN 2218-3620.
Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM2) is a disease with high morbidity and mortality, associated with risk factors. The objective of the study was to analyze Overweight or Obesity, Diet and Smoking as risk factors in older adults from a Medical Clinical in Matanzas, Cuba. An observational, cross-sectional, analytical, and retrospective case-control study was carried out in 628 patients, obtaining the ORs through bivariate analysis for a significance level of 95%. It was found that the risk factors Diet and Smoking are associated with the higher occurrence of DM2, so it was concluded that they are considered risk factors, while with Overweight or Obesity the association is not statistically significant.
