Abstract

This study was conducted at the University of Panama, Faculty of Education Sciences with the objective of determining the relevance of a postgraduate study program in Educational and Professional Orientation in Panama. It is a qualitative design, descriptive in which the variable that is defined as training needs was studied. Two techniques were used for data collection: the survey and the interview. The first allowed to obtain 32 graduates, 13 students of the last year and 10 professors of the career of orientation and, the second, of 7 professionals of institutions, public and private, as contractors in the labor market of the orientation professional. Findings related to the characterization of the population, the need for specialized training at the postgraduate level were relevant and related to the context and social demand; In addition to the competences that are demanded in the specialist counselor.
