The acceleration of knowledge and the information boom that characterize the current era condition, to a great extent, the presence of science and technology in diverse scenarios of everyday life. In this context, the important role of universities in the sustainable progress of a country and their strategies to disseminate science imply that their main functions are oriented to the promotion and management of scientific knowledge through institutional communication. This article aims to assess the process of science communication at the University of Cienfuegos "Carlos Rafael Rodriguez", from 2017 to early 2020, including aspects relevant to the institution’s scientific activity in times of COVID-19. For this study, the Consultation of Experts method was used, as well as the documentary analysis and the review of publications in media and official social networks of the institution. The study showed that significant progress has been made in the promotion scientific and technological events of the UCf. At the same time, it revealed the existence of some weaknesses to be taken into account for the improvement of the Communication Strategy of this Cuban university.
