Higher Education institutions are responding to this demand by studying skills building matters in theory and in practice. This article presents a diagnosis obtained by triangulating the data from surveys, interviews and documentary analysis, which revealed deficiencies in medical students’ ability to comprehensively treat pain in Cienfuegos. The authors put forth of a system of learning tasks to contribute to the development of this skill, to be accomplished in the healthcare context through on-the-job education as a guiding principle of medical training.
