MARQUEZ DELGADO, Dora Lilia; HERNANDEZ SANTOYO, Alain; MARQUEZ DELGADO, Luis Humberto and CASAS VILARDELL, Mayra. Since the end of the 60's of the 20th century, the environmental problem has erupted in scientific, educational, technological and political scenarios as a priority issue, due to its complexity, and the negative impacts that it causes, not only ecologically, but also in the socioeconomic. Thus, the objective of this article was to discuss the conceptual and methodological evolution of environmental education towards the objectives of sustainable development. For this purpose, a historical trend analysis was developed based on a bibliographic and documentary review from the First World Conference on the Environment (1972), the challenges facing the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the 2030 Global Action Plan. Among the main results, it was verified that, since the emergence of environmental education, its motivation has been the search and construction of pedagogical alternatives focused on sustainability as a guiding principle.
