Abstract

CABANILLA GUERRA, Mara. Design of an administrative model to optimize bed management in public hospitals in Machala city. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.2, pp. 489-494.  Epub Apr 02, 2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

The purpose of this research is to optimize the management of hospital beds through the design of an administrative model based on the current legal regulations that house the National Health System of Ecuador. The two public hospitals located in the city of Machala will be analyzed, broken down into their operational relevance corresponding to: Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS). To establish a comparison in terms of efficiency in the management of the hospital bed, with a descriptive and observational methodology, the number of surgeries performed in each hospital will be determined, the number of postponements due to the lack of availability of beds and how it affects in the perception of the hospital user specifically in their level of satisfaction. Management in the occupation of beds is influenced, among other factors, by the demand for hospital services and the o ver-demand of the population served by these medical units. This administrative model seeks to regulate one of the many processes that have flaws in Ecuadorian hospitals, providing the optimized orthodox method for proper management of beds for the benefit of users who have lost confidence in the services provided by public health.
